Happy New year!!
Hard to believe another year has gone by.
It's been a pretty good year for me and my family.
I hope 2011 is a good year too.
No resolutions here, just some things I would like to accomplish.
I made it through the Christmas season without gaining weight, but that is something I need to work on this year.
I would also like to start running since I didn't accomplish that this year.
Reading more is always on the list.
Doing more for charity is high on my list too.
I hope you all have a wonderful 2011!!
God Bless you all. :)

Today is the first day of winter. You couldn't tell that from here.
We already have about 28 inches of snow, and that's all before winter started!!
HERE is the other post I made about the winter solstice.
I bought a new pair of boots a week or so ago and have worn them. They are very warm!! So glad I bought them.
I hope you all have a great winter!!

Thankful Thursday
It's been a busy week for us here. This coming week actually won't be quite as hectic.
I am done buying Christmas gifts, I need to bake and finish cards and finish wrapping. My hubby will help me with some of that.
Today my little guy placed second in his class for a spelling bee! I am so proud of him.
Today I am thankful for:
* friends closing on their house soon!
* my little guy likes to read and spell
* a good vehicle in the snow
* my hard working husband

Thanksgiving Thankful Thursday
Today is Thanksgiving day and we celebrated with our moms.
This year I have been thinking a lot about the early settlers of our nation. I can't imagine the hardships they went through to get here and survive the first few years.
We have most everything in bounty. Not having to worry about food or shelter like the early settlers did.
I am thankful for them and for our nation.
I am also thankful for:
* my cousins
* my mom and her continued health
* my family
* being able to get together and share a bountiful meal
* God
I hope you have all enjoyed your day too!!

I had a doctor appointment this morning that I had to fast for. Afterwards I stopped by McDonalds for a breakfast sandwich. I pulled up to the window to pay and was surprised that the person ahead of me had paid for my order!!! So I paid for the person behind me! It was such a nice surprise and it felt good to pay for the person after me!

Questions....
I was tagged by Bethany to answer these questions. Then I need to think of seven more questions and tag seven people!! This should be fun!
1. Do you exercise regularly? If so what kind of exercise do you do?
I try to, but am not very good at it. I like walking but would love to be able to run!
2. What is your favorite fast food restaurant?
That's a tough one. I really like Wendy's.
3. Do you use plastic, paper, or reusable/recyclable bags?
I use cloth bags that I love!
4. What is the best book you've ever read?
Well, the Bible is pretty interesting, but I love to read Gone With the Wind.
5. What is your favorite drink?
I like tea. Hot or cold with no sugar.
6. What's a website you go to every day?
I visit Cute Overload every day because it makes me laugh.
7. Do you have a favorite charity? What is it and why do you support them?
Hope for the children is a charity we support, we support two orphans in Kenya through them. I also crochet and give to several charities that way. I make shawls, scarves, baby blankets and afghans.
Now for my seven questions:
1. If you could meet anyone in the world, living or dead, who would it be? (I know, lame question. LOL)
2. What profession have you always wanted to do, but haven't for one reason or another?
3. What is your one regret in life?
4. Where in the world would you travel if you could go anywhere?
5. Do you like drive- in movies?
6. What is your favorite snack?
7. What was your favorite game or toy growing up?
I will tag:

October blankets
This is a sweater I made with the remaining baby green then I used Red Heart Aran.
It's really about a size 6 or 7 but my little guy squeezed into it.
Certain family members thought the proportions of the sweater looked odd. You can always turn up the cuffs if they are too long but you can't make short cuffs longer.
It's the first sweater I have made in a while so it was a little wacky looking, but it still works!!

October blankets
This is a rectangular prayer shawl I made. Nobody from church wanted to use this yarn. And someone had started working with this yarn. Must have decided they didn't like it, so I finally chose it. It took a while to actually bring the yarn home and everytime I looked in the cupboard at church it was still there.
It's made with Lion Brand Polarspun in Tutti Fruity.

I haven't been here much...
I haven't been posting much at all here lately.
It seems we were busy getting back in to the swing of school, AWANA, and this year the little guy started Boy Scouts! It seems as though my little guy is somewhat of a mathalete. He loves math and can do some math that is beyond his grade level. I am glad about that since I sometimes have struggled with math. His dad on the other hand does NOT struggle with math!! He is after all an Electrical Engineer!
I also started my Tuesday Bible study again a few weeks ago. We are reading a book by Shaunti Feldhahn called "For Women Only." So far it has been a great book that sort of fits in with the bible study we did last year!!
We had a family wedding this last weekend. My niece got married. She is the oldest and first niece/nephew to get married.
My daughter was home for nine days for the wedding and to visit. We had a great visit too!
I have also continued to crochet all this time and have several shawls, blankets and a sweater to post. I will do that in the next few days.
I haven't kept up with Thankful Thursdays. That doesn't mean I am not thankful because I am!! I need to start doing that this week too.
We have also been doing stuff outside to prepare for winter. We actually cleaned out two sheds and our garage!!
We had some success with curbside recycling again. A golf bag, a tire, vacuum cleaner and some other miscellaneous stuff. I love curbside recycling!!
We have had a beautiful fall so far. But I have been in somewhat of a funk with my blogging. I'll get better about it in the coming days.
Thanks for stopping by!! Leave a comment so I know you were here!

Faith Hope Charity
I went to the Restoring Honor Rally in Washington DC on August 28. It was quite remarkable to be there.
This picture is of my cousins and me at the Mall. I am the second one from the front in the red t shirt. The rest are my cousins and friends. There were seven of us all together.
We left the house about 6:30 am and got to the Mall about 8:30 am. I am thankful that my cousin had the foresight to purchase Metro passes ahead of time for all of us. That was the deal breaker for attending the Rally since some of the people waiting at the Metro station for tickets didn't actually make it to the Rally.
We all stood in the sun for about 8 hrs that day. It was well worth it and I would do it again.
Some of the highlights were Sarah Palin speaking, the men being honored by Glenn and Alveda King speaking and the singing of Amazing Grace with the bagpipes.
What stands out most to me was the togetherness and oneness of the crowd. I actually didn't see any bigots or racists there and I can't believe people call conservatives those vile names.
The whole rally was about restoring honor to America. Because over the years we have lost our honor.
It was also about Faith. Your faith and my faith. Turning back to God. Because that really is the answer. God is the answer and I have seen it several times in my very own life. GOD is the only answer.
This is a picture of the Mall. But it's not a full picture of all the people there. There were people all the way back to the Washington Monument. What else that the TV cameras didn't see was all the people under the trees and all the people sitting on blankets and chairs!!! I was there and I know there were at least a quarter of a million people there. At least. Rumor has it that a park police estimated the crowd at 1.6 million.
Looking at this picure, we were about halfway down the reflecting pool on the right side. We were standing right in front of a speaker tower, so we had no crowd to our backs, we were able to sit on the fence.
It was an incredible experience.

Prayers and Promises week 35
This week's verse is
I Peter 1:6-7
6 So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while.
7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

Another Thursday, which means it's Thankful Thursday. This month we are meeting at
Laurie's, please join us.
This is the dog days of summer and it sure has felt like it the past week or so. We have had high dewpoints along with high temps. It makes a person feel like not doing much.
I am thankful for the window air conditioners we have!!
Our veggie garden took a hit with some storms we had and some of our tomato plants are not doing well. I am disappointed because I love fresh tomatoes.
The Zucchini is doing well and so far I have frozen about 5 cups of shredded Zucchini for the winter. We will be having more zucchini so I will be freezing more.
August is turning out to be a moderately busy month. One more game of T ball for the little guy and he will be done. The state fair will start later this month and that is something we always enjoy. There is also a county fair that the little guy likes to go to! I am taking a short trip at the end of the month. I am excited and may post more about that later! There's more, but I can't think of it all right now.
I am thankful to be done with back to school shopping. That includes clothes and school supplies. We purchased shoes yesterday and all that is left is winter jacket and snow pants!!
I am thankful that my husband heart test all came back with nothing to worry about! It was a relief to go to his doctor appt with him.
I am thankful that I have my little guy to give me hugs and kisses because I know it won't be long before he won't be doing that stuff anymore!!
I hope you all have a good week this coming week.

Matthew 5:14-16 (New Living Translation)
14 “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.
15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Isaiah 40:30-31
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Thankful Thursday
Today Lynn is hosting Thankful Thursday!
It has been a fun week this week. Plus our garden is starting to produce eatable food! We have another zucchini, and some Roma and cherry tomatoes. They all taste so fresh and so different than store bought.
Today I am thankful for:
* my family and our good health
* my little boy who loves big sister
* my daughter
* for the Mall of America. I am not a shopper but had fun there on Tuesday
* my lovely garden, I can't wait for the bigger tomatoes!

Thankful Thursday
This week Lynn is hosting Thankful Thursday.
I have much to be thankful for these past two weeks.
I didn't make a TT post last week. I am not sure why I didn't do it.
I am thankful for my families health, I know I post that almost every week but it is true. My husband had a health scare last week that was frightening. He is going in for more testing but so far everything looks good!
My little guy is really not much of a swimmer. He cannot float and he needs to be able to float to pass the current level of lessons. So, he will be repeating this level again this summer. If he doesn't pass, I know a woman that teaches privately and he will do that. He needs to learn to swim.
I am also thankful for air conditioning this summer! We actually didn't have air for many years and I wonder now how we did that!
I am thankful for my garden!! We got a HUGE Zucchini about two weeks ago and I was able to make SIX loaves of bread with it. My boy loves Zucchini bread.
We also are starting to get tomatoes now. For some reason we have a cherry tomato plant and I don't like cherry tomatoes. But I ate one and it was delicious. I can't wait til we get the bigger tomatoes!
My mom remains healthy even though she had a bad case of gout. It's better now but it was painful.
I am blessed!!

Thankful Thursday
Lynn is our host for the month of July. Today she has a post about friendship.
It's been so hot and humid here this past week. We went to a new waterpark pool in our area and it was a great pool. I didn't go in the water, and kept in the shade the whole time and still got burned!! So did both my guys!
The veggie garden is doing well and I was able to share some of my lettuce with the neighbor--he enjoyed it!! And we got our first zucchini today--it is HUGE. I will make zucchini bread tomorrow, the little guy loves it!
Today I am thankful for:
* my family
* fresh garden veggies
* my garden
* the flowers in our yard--there is such a beautiful scent outside!
* the hummingbirds and all the other birds and wildlife in our yard
* my husband--because he puts up with me!!
* my little guy--he brings me such joy

Independence day!!
I chose this flag because it is closest to the flag that was around in 1814 when the Star Spangled Banner was written. The war of 1812, between the British and American troops is well worth a good read.
In the past year or so I have been studying the history--the real history of our United States and my eyes have been opened to what our founding fathers were, and how this nation was formed.
It is fascinating to say the least.
I am posting the all the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner today. We mostly always just sing the first verse, but take a careful look at the rest of the verses.
The Star Spangled Banner
By Francis Scott Key 1814
Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Bethany has chosen "power" for the theme this month!
Ephesians 1:18-19 (New Living Translation)
18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.[a]
19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms

Today marks the summer solstice.
That means it's the longest day of the year, and after today, the days start to get shorter!!

T ball started last week, so he will have practices on Tuesdays, and games on Saturday throughout the summer.

This is the Saturday edition of TT since I didn't post on Thursday. I see I didn't post until Saturday last week too, but that was because I didn't have a computer!
Iris has posted about music this week. Go check out her post!!
I love praise and worship music even though I can't sing. A lot of times I find a new song or even an old favorite and listen to it often. When I haven't heard a song for a while, it's like it is brand new!!
I also like Rock and Roll music and listen to that too.
This week I am thankful for:
* the sun after so much rain
* my garden growing!! Can't wait for fresh tomatoes
* my children
* swim lessons
* t ball, it's so fun to watch the little ones play!

June Blankets
These are six more blankets made for the NICU.
I like making these little ones because they go quickly. And it gets rid of a lot of my leftover yarn!!
The pink ones were made with Joann's Boucle, which is not a favorite to work with but I added white and it was easier.
That is a navy blue mixed with white and a light blue mixed with white.
