Spring!!!!

It's Spring today!! Though we have had some unseasonably warm weather all month.  Like in the 70's type of warm weather. Which is very unusual for us.  But, our ground is still frozen.

I haven't posted much lately because I have been busy with my college classes. The Algebra and Writing have taken over my life. I had a spring break but it wasn't even at the same time as my boy had his break.  And, I still had homework to do the week I was off school!!

I can't believe I haven't posted in two months!! That's a long time for me to not post.

My boy had another birthday in early March. He had his usual Dinosaur cake, and he brought dinosaur cupcakes to school. This year we also made a goodie bag for the kids in his class. Fun stuff, no candy. The kids seemed to like them.

The picture in this post is of a Barred Owl that visited us earlier this month in our yard. The boy spotted it and we all ran to the window to watch. It stuck around for about 45 minutes and moved from tree to tree a couple of times. It was fascinating! And Owls are really weird animals. It turned it's head. It was really weird.

My daughter is doing well, along with her cats!  Sometimes I miss cats, but with our one Jack Russell, it would never work.

I know I have more to add, but can't think of anything at the moment.  I'll try to keep up better with the blog.

Spring!!

Today marks the first day of Spring!! Most of March has already been spring like, but today and tomorrow have been more like the last days of winter here.

I never really count on nice weather in March because we usually get some type of cold weather and snow. Even in to April sometimes.

It has been gorgeous here. The snow is mostly all gone. I still have a few dirty snow piles where the sun doesn't get to much. But it's mostly all gone now.

I am excited to start my garden. This year I am trying some new veggies.

I can't wait to have garden fresh veggies.

Vernal Equinox

Today marks the first day of Spring!! I am glad winter is over!

Here is some info about the vernal equinox.

The March equinox will occur on March 20 in 2009, marking the beginning of spring in the northern hemisphere and fall (autumn) in the southern hemisphere from an astronomical viewpoint. The March equinox will occur at 11:44am.

Twice a year, around March 20 or 21 and September 22 or 23, the sun shines directly on the equator and the length of day and night are nearly equal in all parts of the world. These two days are known as the March(vernal or spring in the northern hemisphere) equinox and the September equinox.

The word “equinox” derives from the Latin words meaning “equal night” and refers to the time when the sun crosses the equator. At such times, day and night are everywhere of nearly equal length everywhere in the world.

A Greek astronomer and mathematician named Hipparchus (ca. 190-ca.120 BCE) was known for discovering the precession of the equinoxes, the slow movement among the stars of the two opposite places where the sun crosses the celestial equator. Hipparchus made observations of the equinox and solstice.

Spring!!!

Though it's actually more like a month or so before I see tulips, I think spring has finally arrived here!!

The ground is still frozen, and will be for some time but it is 65 degrees right now.
Yesterday it was in the 50's!

We have a river out back for the second time this year and the dogs were on the boardwalk/sidewalk sunning themselves!!

The yard is a mess now that most of the snow is gone, but it is warm and sunny out.

The little guy and daddy were out in the driveway riding bikes and scooters.

It seems like it's been a very long winter and I think it's been colder this year than in recent years.

And Friday is the Spring Equinox!!

Spring!

Tomorrow is the first day of spring and this is what we woke up to. About three inches of heavy, wet snow. It's beautiful the way it sticks to the trees. It will probably all or mostly all melt today and tomorrow. I took these pictures about 7:30 this morning.
