Fleece......

The first picture is all the fleece that my husband and I cut to make blankets. I cut

them to different sizes, then I crochet an  edge with yarn. It's something different than just crocheting a whole blanket. Most of these go to an NICU unit for preemie babies, so some of the blankets are quite small.

The second picture is of the yarn and fleece after I purchased it. Most of them are two yards but there are some a bit larger due to being bolt ends. All of the fleece cut equals 102 pieces. I don't think I'll get them all done this year though!! That's a lot to do in between my regular crocheting. But it will be fun to see how many I get done!!

World Vision

Each year my husband receives a bonus from work and each year we each receive a piece of the bonus to give to a charity.  Most years I choose World Vision.

Each year when I make the phone call, I make a fool of myself and start crying. I cry because it makes me desperately sad that I even have to give to this charity to begin with. But I give with a cheerful heart.

There are many different items that can be donated. Most years I give animals. This year I gave a goat and chickens, then another portion for where ever the need is greatest.

Last year I donated fruit trees.

It is very humbling to me to give to this organization. I am thankful I can give.

More baby blankets from summer

These are all more baby blankets I made this summer.

Most of them,  except the big blue one,  are going to the NICU charity.

Rushford Minnesota

These afghans you've already seen.

I haven't had anywhere to send them.

Until today.

They are going to Rushford Minnesota.

The community was ruined from the floods last year and our church and a bunch of other churches from my town are going down there to help rebuild the community.

Some ladies from church made quilts and I asked if I could send my crocheted afghans.

So they are going down there. I hope the families find them useful!!

Crochet and Charity

A whole new world has opened up to me since I found my crochet message board!
I have made so many new afghans and learned so many new stitches too. There is a section on the board for Charity projects too. There is always a charity to give to, or someone needing squares for a comfortghan.
One of the first projects I donated to was sadly, the Virginia Tech killings. I made 33 granny squares for the project.

It's so easy to crochet granny squares with left over yarn. And it doesn't take long and it's a nice break from afghans.
There is an organization providing blankets for the victims of the San Diego fires. I am making squares to contribute to that.

My motivation for all the charity work?? I am home. I don't do much in the evenings and it brings me great joy to create something and know that it may bring some comfort to someone in need. :) Plus I just like to crochet!!
