Thankful Thursday

Today Lynn is hosting Thankful Thursday. Pop on over to her blog and have a look around!

This has been a somewhat busy week for me. Tuesday I brought the little guy to the doctor--he is diagnosed with shingles!! I had no idea that is what it is.

Also on Tuesday my dear husband went to the doctor. He also is extremely rashy. He gets a terrible rash every spring but this year is is exceptionally bad. He got some prednisone from his doctor and is feling somewhat better. These rashes are from allergies.

I also uncovered a rabbits nest a week or so ago and I was afraid the mama would abandon her babes. She did not! My husband saw a baby bunny venturing out yesterday and it scooted back into it's burrow.

We had an unexpected frost that killed off some of the plants we planted. Thankfully our veggies are ok!

Today I am thankful for:
* my little guys health
* that my husband is feeling better
* for the beautiful early spring days
* the birds singing
* a clean house and full pantry!

Have a great week.

Kindergarten pot

This is a flower pot that my little guys class decorated. It's a ten inch terra cotta pot with the tray.

We had a dinner and auction for a school fundraiser and I won the Kindergarten class project. It also came with a beautiful tray with a class picture decopaged onto the tray. The terra cotta pot was filled with all sorts of gardening items and seeds. It also came with a gift certificate to a nursery!

All the items we donated went at the auction too!

It was such a fun evening! I can't wait til next year.

April blankets

I made this blanket for a little boy whose favorite color is red. This blanket really is Red, it's just a picture taken in bad light.

It is made with Homespun Candy Apple (the same as the other red/white blankets I made) and it is 34 inches wide and 50 inches long.

Thankful Thursday

Today Lynn is talking about new birth at her blog for Thankful Thursday. She also asks: "have you had a tiny encounter with Jesus lately?"

I try to look for the Jesus encounters and sometimes they come when I am not looking. Sometimes I miss them and think later, "oh yeah, that was Jesus!!"

This week I am thankful for many things:
* the beautiful spring weather, it is TWO whole weeks early here and we have been planting lots of stuff.
* the dentist for finally getting my crown in, and it fit perfectly! There was a mistake with the first crown and I had to wait an extra week for the new crown.
* my family
* my freedom and faith

April blankets

This blanket is made for a special woman that was told she would never have babies because of some health issue.

It is the sister in law and best friend of the woman I made this blanket for. The sister in law liked the red/white blanket so much that I made one for her. It will be a surprise so I will be excited to hear how she likes it for her little baby boy!

It is one of my favorite colors. And incredibly, I am making a solid red one for another little boy!!

It's made with Homespun Candy Apple and Heppelwhite. It is 31 inches wide and 39 inches long.

Thankful Thursday

Don't forget to go visit Lynn at her blog this week for Thankful Thursday!

I have had a somewhat busy week doing extra things I don't normally do and my husband has been working nights. I don't get very good rest when he works nights.

I also had a dental appointment for a crown, except the crown was made incorrectly and it has to be remade. Then, in talking with the dentist about my teeth, we agreed I would probably need another crown soon. I do not like teeth issues at all.

This week I am thankful for:
* a good dentist!
* my sweet boy--listening to him say the Lord's prayer!!
* my husband, I am thankful he works so hard for us so I can stay home!
* my daughter!
* sunny, warm days!!
* the birds singing in the very early morning
* the bats being back!

April blankets

These six blankets are for the babies at the NICU.

The top two blankets are made with Patons Melody Thick and Cozy yarn. The color is pastel clouds. It is so pretty, thick and soft for baby blankets. These blankets are about 17X19 inches.

The two pink blankets are made with Bernat Softee Baby. the colors are Peony Prints and Soft Red. The peony is actually a variegated color but the red sort of blocks it out. I got both these colors on a huge discount. These two blankets are about 16X17 inches.

The two blueish blankets are made with TLC Baby Amore. I am not sure what the color is but I thought it was pretty. These two blankets measure about 21X27 inches.

A book recommendation.............

The New Eve

I am currently reading this book for my bible study.

I highly recommend it to any woman! It is a great book.

It is written by a man, which I thought was totally wrong, but after reading it I can see how it works!

Thankful Thursday

Lynn is blogging about "When God Corrects" today and it is good-go read it!!

Today was a beautiful day. My husband has the week off and it's so enjoyable having him around. We always have fun when he is home. He even helped me clean today since I had absolutely no ambition to clean the house today, but I did get it all done!

I am thankful for:
*my husband!!
*my little guy
*my daughter
*my faith and God and his mercy!
*beautiful, sunny spring days
*Spring, when everything is new and growing!

Prayers and Promises week 14

Bethany has chosen "one another" for the April theme. I think I will like this months verses!!

Ephesians 4:32:
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Happy Easter

Happy Easter to all of you!

Today is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

I am aware of the pagan beginnings of easter. But I know the difference between the pagan traditions and the biblical traditions.

We don't do an easter basket of colored eggs and candy and toys. But we do eat a lot of chocolate eggs and other goodies this time of year. And I make a traditional "easter" dinner.

I am so glad we are able to send the little guy to a private school that actually teaches biblical principals and what really happened to Jesus. And I am thankful for a church that teaches biblically. And for a husband that has a teaching gift!!

Romans 10:9 (New King James Version)

9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Thankful Thursday

This month Lynn is hosting Thankful Thursday.

Today Lynn is blogging about Holy week and Passover. If you have never had a seder meal, I highly recommend it. The meal and traditions are wonderful!

Today I am thankful for many things. My little guy was diagnosed with strep for the very first time ever. He was feeling poorly and just not himself, but he wasn't complaining too much. We called the doctor and the clinic got him in right away. He is currently taking antibiotics and feels much better. I am thankful for antibiotics.

I am thankful for my husband who is handy around the house and yard. He added a fence to our yard so the dogs don't mess the whole yard. It will be nice to have some grass that is clean!! And the new fencing looks great.

He also added some iron edging fence to the flower garden areas. It has hummingbirds on it and it also looks great.

I am thankful today for warm weather. We had NO snow in March. That hasn't happened here for many many years. And today it is 72 and sunny. It is gorgeous out today.

I am thankful for the new life in the spring time. The birds singing, and the grass greening up.

I am thankful for my family.

I am thankful for Jesus! He is RISEN!!!

Thankful Thursday

Today Laurie is hosting Thankful Thursday today. She is blogging about "strength for today"

I need strength today!! I need to turn to God for strength.

Today I am thankful for:
* sunny warm weather
* two mile walks with my husband and son
* being able to volunteer at my boys school
* my family

My little guy starts his school vacation starting after school tomorrow. We don't have much planned but I am sure we will do some fun things.

WOW...

I don't know why I was surprised by this, but I was. God always amazes me!

We support two African Orphans. The woman who runs the organization has been there several times and she knows the Pastor who runs the orphanage. His name is Pastor Moses.

My husband occasionally gets a bonus at work and we decided that bonus tithes would go toward the orphans. We tithe faithfully--over 10% so we are comfortable with our decision.

We sent our check off with a note because our little guy wanted to give some of his money, so we explained that to Kristy.

We received a note today from Kristy that just TWO days prior to receiving our check, that Pastor Moses had called and said the city was forcing the Orphanage to get electricity and he needed financial help with that. Then our check arrived!!
Looking back on our check register, we actually wrote the check out the day Pastor Moses called Kristy!!

That certainly can only be God at work with the timing and everything!! It is such a blessing to us--supporting the orphans and hearing a story like this!!

But can you imagine not having electricity?? I had to explain that one to the little guy!!

Praise GOD!!!! I shouldn't be so surprised because GOD is so faithful to answer prayers!!
I've just learned it's not always the answer we want!! But it is GODS answer.

Prayers and Promises week 12

Bethany chooses the verses each week for Prayers and promises. This week she has chosen 1 Chronicles 7:14 for our nation this week. It seems fitting.

1 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

Spring!!

Today marks the first day of Spring!! Most of March has already been spring like, but today and tomorrow have been more like the last days of winter here.

I never really count on nice weather in March because we usually get some type of cold weather and snow. Even in to April sometimes.

It has been gorgeous here. The snow is mostly all gone. I still have a few dirty snow piles where the sun doesn't get to much. But it's mostly all gone now.

I am excited to start my garden. This year I am trying some new veggies.

I can't wait to have garden fresh veggies.

Hope you all enjoy your Spring!

Seems as though I took a break from TT last week.

This week Laurie at Women Taking a Stand is hosting. She is blogging about how we are expected, as Christians, to dress. It is very enlightening!! Go read it!

Today was a gorgeous day here for March, but the weather is going to be more March like starting tomorrow.

I was able to spend the whole day with my husband and we did lots of shopping and out to lunch. It was so fun.

Today I am thankful for:
* My hard working husband
* days off spent with him
* sunny warm days in March
* my sweet children
* my little guys school

March Blankets

Three more NICU baby blankets.

The purple is 19inches wide and 19 inches long. It's made with Bernat Soft Boucle. This yarn is similar to Homespun and I thought it would make a nice blanket.

The pink is 16.5w x 16 inches long. It's made with Lion Brand Vanna's Choice in Rose Mist. It's just a regular worsted weight yarn-not at all like Homespun but I liked the color.

The blue is 17.5x17 and it's made with Lion Brand Homespun.

The dinosaur cake

Here is the obligatory dinosaur cake for the little guy. He actually ate the cake this time instead of just all the frosting.

He had a good celebration though he was a bit disappointed we didn't have the WHOLE family over again like last year! It's hard to explain why everyone can't come over every year!

But sister was here and that's what is important to the little guy!

Today Laurie is our host. She is blogging about a sprinkler system and it is worth reading. She makes a lot of sense and I agree with her 100% on this!!

Today is my little guys sixth birthday!! I can hardly believe it but it's true. He is very excited to be turning 6.

We are very blessed to have the little guy in our lives. He was such a sweet surprise for us all. We will be celebrating with pizza and a dinosaur decorated cake tonight!!

Today I am thankful for:
*my sweet boy
*my gentle husband
*my lively daughter
*the beautiful sunshiney days we have been having
*the snow--yes the snow!
*God's daily guidance in my life
*old friends remembered and found again!

Olympics

I love watching the Olympics, Winter or Summer. I know throughout my life I have watched them, but I am most aware of the 1980 and 1984 Olympics as when I started watching them with great interest.

This year is an anniversary of sorts for me and my husband.

We were just newly dating when we were watching the 1994 Winter Olympics. I vividly remember watching mens Alpine skiing.

So this is our fifth Olympics together.

I look forward to many many more too!!

Today Iris at Grace Alone is talking about change and new things.

I don't really like a lot of change. Maybe I am set in my ways, but I am not real big on change. Though, as I get older, I seem to be able to deal with change better.

I don't like to try new things most of the time but I do. Sometimes I just need to push myself and try that new thing.

This has been a good week. Not too much has happened, it's just been a good week.

I am thankful for many things.

* my hardworking husband
* my sweet little boy
* warm sunshine
* my daughter
* friends

6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior.
7 Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.”

Thankful Thursday

Today join us at Grace Alone .

Today I am thankful for many things. It has been a reflective type of day for me. Thinking about people no longer with me here on earth, and thinking of friends, past and present.

I have also been thinking of my past. Thinking of the good and the bad. The regrets and the moments of joy.

I have learned that I need to find forgiveness in myself. It seems to be a hard task.

I am thankful for my little guy who makes me smile. He wants a dessert other than the lemon cake I made!! He apparently doesn't like lemon cake!!

I am thankful for my hardworking husband and the time we spend together. And the mid week lunches we enjoy so often.

I am thankful for my family, sunshine, a full belly and friends.

I am thankful that I can pray whenever and wherever I want.

Baby washcloths

These are nine baby wash cloths I made recently for the baskets for the auction at my little guys school.

They are all made with 100% cotton yarn. They are so soft and will be even softer after I wash them!!

Most of the washcloths are about 8x8. Some are a bit smaller.

I plan on putting three in each basket and then will send the last three to a woman I know having a baby girl!!

This is a baby blanket I made for an auction.

My little guy goes to a private school and each spring they have a dinner and auction to raise money for various school items.

A lot of the families at the school make baskets to give to the auction. I crochet so I am making a blanket basket for the auction. It will include the blanket, crocheted baby washcloths, a onsie and a toy.

This blanket is made with Homespun Cotton Candy and it is 32 inches wide by 42 inches long.

Thankful Thursday

This month we are meeting at Grace Alone where Iris is writing about Daily Blessings this week.

I have learned over the years that I can pray anytime and anywhere. I never knew that and just though that I could pray to God at night. But it has changed something about my prayer life to know this.

I can sit in front of the computer and if someone on Facebook or a message board has a prayer request, I can pray right then and there--and I do. Almost every time I pray immediately for the prayer request.

To me, this is a daily blessing. And sort of selfish since if I pray immediately, I don't have a long list to pray for at night!!

That is just one of my daily blessings.

All I need to do is look around my life to see how blessed I truly am!! I thank God daily for the big and small blessings in my life!!

Today I am thankful for, and blessed because:
* my faith
* enjoying a lunch date with my husband in the middle of the week
* my daughter coming for a visit
* my little guy!
* my other family members
* my dogs--they are such good companions.

Groundhog day

Well, it seems as though Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today in Pennsylvania.

Looks like we are in for another six weeks of winter.

I am not surprised by that at all. Especially living here. We have winter sometimes well into March. The day we brought the little guy home from the hospital, we had a snow storm. It was a beautiful fluffy, yet wet snow. Gorgeous.

So I am not looking to see warmer weather til some time in March.

HERE is some more info on Groundhog day that you might find interesting.

Prayers and Promises week 5

Today Bethany has written about this months theme for Promises and Prayers.

She has chosen "grace".

Here is the definition of Grace, found HERE.

Grace: favor or good will. mercy; clemency; pardon.

Here is this week's verse:

"See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many."

Thankful Thursday

Today Lynn is blogging about "the unexpected".

This is interesting. I have had some wonderful unexpected things happen to me. I have had some awful unexpected things happen too.

One time (thanks Bethany for reminding me) I found about 57 dollars in a jacket pocket! That was certainly an unexpected gift!!

What unexpected things have you had happen to you??

Today I am thankful for:
* the sunshine!! Even though it is soooo cold out again
* my family
* my warm house
* my faith

January Blankets

Another NICU blanket.

This is made with Lion Brand Vanna's choice. The color is Sapphire. It's a bright blue and it is pretty. I used about six ounces to make this blanket.

It also measures 18.5 x 21 inches. Same as the last one. I don't really measure these small blankets when I make them. I just crochet the foundation row and when it looks good, I start the blanket. Some are smaller and some are bigger, but I rarely get a lot of the same size. So I was surprised when this one measured the exact same as the last blanket!!

Thankful Thursday

Lynn is our host today for Thankful Thursday.

Today I am thankful for:
* being healthy
* my husband who works so hard for his family
* my children
* friends who understand
* the ability to read

It's been another fast week. The little guy and I are a bit under the weather but nothing huge or debilitating. Just some colds and congestion.

It's still winter but it has been mild for the last few weeks. I am enjoying the warmer winter weather.

Hubby has a few days off, I know we will be going out to eat one day while he is home.

It's so good to be out of debt!! For so many years we played catch up with bills, credit cards, car payments and now we no longer have most of that. Just months utilities, house payment etc. It's just so liberating.
I was talking with a friend about being debt free and encouraged her to stick with it. She and her family are on the Dave Ramsey program and are making progress with their debt!

Nothing to exciting coming up for us. I think a quiet restful weekend is in store for all of us!

Galatians 6:7-8
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

James 1:2-3
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

Prayers and Promises week 3

This week the verse is 1 Corinthians 9:12

If you support others who preach to you, shouldn’t we have an even greater right to be supported? But we have never used this right. We would rather put up with anything than be an obstacle to the Good News about Christ.

James 1:17
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

1 John 4:20-21
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar:
for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

Photobucket

This blanket is made with Lion Brand Chunky yarn. the color is Lavendar Jazz.

I like working with this yarn for baby blankets. It's a little thicker than Red Heart so it makes a firmer, bulkier blanket.

This is a Granny Square.

It is 22 x 22 inches.

RIP Meip Gies

An incredible and heroic woman for sure.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/6973512/Miep-Gies.html

Miep Gies, who died on January 11 aged 100, was one of a Dutch couple who hid and sustained the family of Anne Frank for more than two years in an Amsterdam attic; later she helped to save Anne Frank's diary for posterity.

She was born Hermine Santrouschitz on February 15 1909 into a German Roman Catholic family in Vienna, but was sent to the Netherlands when she was 11 to escape the food shortages in Austria. The family with which she lived in Leiden gave her the nickname Miep and later adopted her. By the outbreak of the Second World War she was working as an assistant to Otto Frank, the owner of a pectin manufacturing company in Amsterdam.

After the Nazi invasion of 1940, Frank prepared a secret annex behind a swinging bookcase in a room above the firm's offices at 263 Prinsengracht; and in July 1942 the family of four – Otto, his wife Edith and their daughters Margot and Anne – went into hiding, leaving a false trail indicating that they had fled to Switzerland. Soon afterwards they were joined by other Jews, the van Pels family and Miep Gies's family dentist, Fritz Pfeffer – eight people in all.

For two years Miep Gies and her husband Jan, a municipal employee whom she had married in 1941, risked their lives to smuggle in food and provisions and news from outside, begging, buying and bartering what they needed from farmers and shopkeepers. They were helped throughout by her colleagues Victor Kugler, Johannes Kleiman and Bep Voskuijl.

Miep acted as a confidante for the adolescent Anne, bringing her paper for her diary and, on one occasion, a pair of second-hand high-heeled shoes. The Gies's heroic feat of humanitarianism ended on August 4 1944, when the Frank family were betrayed (by a person whose identity remains unknown), arrested and sent to concentration camps.

When the Gestapo arrived, Miep Gies was at her desk in the office below. She recognised from the voice of one of the arresting officers that he was Viennese, and she managed to charm him, perhaps saving her own life.

She never saw her Jewish friends again but "could tell from the sound of their feet on the wooden steps that they were coming down like beaten dogs".

Later, at considerable personal risk, she went to Gestapo headquarters to try to bargain for their release – but to no avail. Eventually she returned to their hiding place and found Anne's diary, its pages scattered over the floor.

She intended to return it to its author, knowing how important the diary had been to her, and locked it away without reading a word. Nearly a year later, Anne's father Otto returned from Auschwitz. He knew his wife and friends had not survived, but still hoped that his two daughters, Margot, 18, and Anne, 15, had been spared.

Two months later he received a letter that confirmed that both girls had died in Bergen-Belsen in March 1945, less than a month before the camp was liberated by British soldiers.

Miep Gies was with him when he received the news and could not find the words to comfort him. Then she remembered Anne's diary. She took it out of the desk and gave it to him, saying: "Here is your daughter Anne's legacy to you."

Eventually published in 1947, The Diary of Anne Frank became, after the Bible, the best-selling non-fiction book in the world.

Miep Gies recalled Otto Frank's dignified refusal to seek revenge. He declined ever to identify the man who had arrested them, telling her: "Miep, that man may have children. Those children should not have to live with such a thing."

For two years she resisted all Otto Frank's efforts to persuade her to read his daughter's diaries, but eventually relented and was glad that while Anne had invented pseudonyms for everyone else, Miep's name was unchanged.

For the rest of her life, Miep Gies devoted herself to sustaining Anne Frank's legacy, answering letters from all over the world. In 1987 she published a book, Anne Frank Remembered. In it she observed: "I am not a hero. I stand at the end of the long, long line of good Dutch people who did what I did and more – much more – during those dark and terrible times years ago, but always like yesterday in the heart of those of us who bear witness."

She was decorated by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands for her heroism and dedication and the Israeli Holocaust museum Yad Vashem bestowed on her the title of "Righteous Gentile". She was also honoured by the German government.

On August 4 every year, the day of the arrest, Miep Gies would shut herself away in her house and see no one. "I act as though the day does not exist. It is my personal memorial to my people," she explained.

In 1996 Jon Blair's film Anne Frank Remembered won an Oscar for best documentary feature. Blair took Miep Gies to the ceremony in Hollywood, and as they were on their way to the awards in their limousine she remarked that she had agreed to come because Anne Frank had always wanted to be famous, and that she had loved Hollywood. Blair took Miep Gies on to the stage when he made his acceptance speech, and the audience gave her a standing ovation.

Jan Gies died in 1993, and she is survived by a son.

Prayers and Promises

At the beginning of the year Bethany started "Prayers and Promises" at her blog. She also has chosen a theme for January and that is: THANKFULLNESS.

I am going to post this weeks verse and last weeks verse since I didn't do it last week. Then each Sunday I will post the verse for the week.

Thanks again Bethany!!

This week:
Ephesians 5:4--
"Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving."

Last weeks verse:
Colossians 2:6, 7--
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness."

This blanket is 16 X 16 inches. It's made with leftover yarn.

The pattern is just a plain old Granny square.

Thankful Thursday

The first Thankful Thursday of the new year!!

This month Lynn at Spiritually Unequal Marriage is our host. Today she is writing about "The Fellowship of the Unashamed".

A prayer from her today!

So today become empowered by the Holy Spirit. Read this prayer aloud this very moment.

"I'm part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have Holy Spirit power. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I am a disciple of His. I won't look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still.

My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, my future is secure. I'm finished and done with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals.

I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don't have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded. I now live by faith, lean on His presence, walk by patience, lift by prayer, and labor by power.

My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven, my road is narrow, my way is rough, my companions are few, my Guide is reliable, my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded, or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.

I won’t give up, shut up, let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, and preached up for the cause of Christ. I am a disciple of Jesus. I must go 'til He comes, give 'til I drop, preach 'til all know, and work 'til He stops me. And when He comes for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me-my banner of identification with Jesus will be clear."

Today, I am thankful for:
*a warm jacket, it has been so cold here recently
*a new year
*God's grace and mercy that are new each day
*real friends
*learning new things
*my family

Isaiah 40:31, King James Version

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Ephesians 5:1-2
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Exercise

A new year of exercising.

We have two machines in our home. A Treadmill and an Elliptical machine.

We have moved the treadmill downstairs and I must admit it is so much easier to walk on the treadmill for thirty minutes while watching a big screen TV.

Or listening to an Elton John concert. Or The Who.

I think this is going to be a good move!!!!
