The colors I bought are new colors. I have never seen them before. And, I bought too much!! But it was a good sale!!!

From the top left the colors are:
Earth
Deco
Saffron
Top right:
Meadow
Hepplewhite
Plum
And the one on top of them all is Candy Apple.

I bought six skeins of each color.

I can't wait to make some of the yarn in to afghans and shawls!!

Visitors

Christmas morning I had my Mother in Law for brunch. Right before we ate she noticed these deer in our back yard.

There were actually about 6 or 7 of them and we watched them for a few minutes out our back door.

My husband got these two pictures. The dogs started barking and the deer walked away.

It was fun to see them and watch them.

Caroling...................

I was reading a friends blog and she mentioned that she would like to go caroling at Christmas time.

She thought her neighbors would slam the door in her face.

Well, I think she should try it next year. I can't sing otherwise it sounds like a great idea!!

When I was young, our neighbors used to go caroling throughout the whole neigborhood and it was a treat to see and hear them each year!

Sunday Song

Chris Tomlin - Enough

All of You is more than enough for all of me
For every thirst and every need
You satisfy me with Your love
And all I have in You is more than enough

You are my supply
My breath of life
And still more awesome than I know
You're the coming King
You are everything
And still more awesome than I know

All of You is more than enough for all of me
For every thirst and every need
You satisfy me with Your love
And all I have in You is more than enough

You're my sacrifice
Of greatest price
And still more awesome than I know
You're the coming King
You are everything
And still more awesome than I know

More than all I want
More than all I need
You are more than enough for me
More than all I know
More than all I can say
You are more than enough for me

Twelve Days of Christmas

I thought this was interesting. I hope you do too.

The twelve days of Christmas:

-The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

-Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.

-Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

-The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.

-The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.

-The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

-Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership and Mercy.

-The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

-Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control.

-The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.

-The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

-The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.

Malachi 3:10
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room
enough to receive it.

Merry Christmas!!

Some say the Star that was in the sky when Jesus was born was three planets in close proximity. The bible also does not say that the three wisemen were at Jesus birth, it just says they visited him.

Today is the day that most Christians celebrate Jesus birth, but we all know He wasn't born on December 25. That's ok. We still celebrate His birth.

We have no tree and we don't decorate our house, though I would love a cross or huge lighted star to hang on the house for passersby to see. I do send out Christmas cards because I love to send cards. And we give modest gifts to the children and young adults in the family. We don't have piles of gifts anywhere.

And we donate to Toys for Tots and some years sponsor a family.

I usually bake or make some food item for my brothers, my mother in law, mom and a neighbor .

And the nieces and nephews liked their crocheted hats!! I just have two hats I need to modify so it worked out well!

This time of year can be stressful and I pray you all have a peaceful celebration this year!!

Luke 2:8-14
8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid.
10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.
11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
14 “ Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

Thankful Thursday

Today Iris asked us to reflect upon memories of Christmas past. I have several I can think of:
*We always had a casual dinner on Christmas eve. Then we played Rummy with pennies for a while, then we opened gifts.
*The decorations in the old boxes.
*The gold angel ornaments
*Being young and carefree
*Each year my Grandma gave us a five dollar bill. I think she got them from the bank. One year it was in a can that we had to open then we used the can as a pencil holder!!

A visitor

This is a Red Bellied Woodpecker.

It has been visiting the suet feeder outside our dining room window.

It's not a very clear picture but you can google and find a clear picture.

My husband and I are birdwatchers and this is a new bird that we have seen. Though we have had a Pileated and Downy Woodpeckers visiting us before and there is a woodpecker that likes to peck at our log house!!

Sunday song

My little guy sang this at church this morning for the Christmas Program. It is so cute seeing the little ones in a Christmas program.

And, daddy got him singing it last night on video in his jammies!!

Away in a Manger

Away in a manger,
No crib for His bed
The little Lord Jesus
Laid down His sweet head

The stars in the bright sky
Looked down where He lay
The little Lord Jesus
Asleep on the hay

The cattle are lowing
The poor Baby wakes
But little Lord Jesus
No crying He makes

I love Thee, Lord Jesus
Look down from the sky
And stay by my side,
'Til morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus,
I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever
And love me I pray

Bless all the dear children
In Thy tender care
And take us to heaven
To live with Thee there

Today in History....

December 18

Mayflower passengers come ashore at Plymouth Harbor

On December 18, 1620, passengers on the British ship Mayflower come ashore at modern-day Plymouth, Massachusetts, to begin their new settlement, Plymouth Colony.

The famous Mayflower story began in 1606, when a group of reform-minded Puritans in Nottinghamshire, England, founded their own church, separate from the state-sanctioned Church of England. Accused of treason, they were forced to leave the country and settle in the more tolerant Netherlands. After 12 years of struggling to adapt and make a decent living, the group sought financial backing from some London merchants to set up a colony in America. On September 6, 1620, 102 passengers--dubbed Pilgrims by William Bradford, a passenger who would become the first governor of Plymouth Colony--crowded on the Mayflower to begin the long, hard journey to a new life in the New World.

On November 11, 1620, the Mayflower anchored at what is now Provincetown Harbor, Cape Cod. Before going ashore, 41 male passengers--heads of families, single men and three male servants--signed the famous Mayflower Compact, agreeing to submit to a government chosen by common consent and to obey all laws made for the good of the colony. Over the next month, several small scouting groups were sent ashore to collect firewood and scout out a good place to build a settlement. Around December 10, one of these groups found a harbor they liked on the western side of Cape Cod Bay. They returned to the Mayflower to tell the other passengers, but bad weather prevented them reaching the harbor until December 16. Two days later, the first group of Pilgrims went ashore.
After exploring the region, the settlers chose a cleared area previously occupied by members of a local Native American tribe, the Wampanoag. The tribe had abandoned the village several years earlier, after an outbreak of European disease. That winter of 1620-21 was brutal, as the Pilgrims struggled to build their settlement, find food and ward off sickness. By spring, 50 of the original 102 Mayflower passengers were dead. The remaining settlers made contact with returning members of the Wampanoag tribe and in March they signed a peace treaty with a tribal chief, Massasoit. Aided by the Wampanoag, especially the English-speaking Squanto, the Pilgrims were able to plant crops--especially corn and beans--that were vital to their survival. The Mayflower and its crew left Plymouth to return to England on April 5, 1621.

Over the next several decades, more and more settlers made the trek across the Atlantic to Plymouth, which gradually grew into a prosperous shipbuilding and fishing center. In 1691, Plymouth was incorporated into the new Massachusetts Bay Association, ending its history as an independent colony.

Sooner or later it was bound to happen....

My husband and I are older parents of the little guy. I had the daughter when I was younger. People often think that our daughter is the little guys mom when we are all out together.

I am older by four years than my husband. I have gray hair that I color so it isn't gray and my hubby has gray hair that he doesn't color.

The little guy calls daddy "papa" or if you watch Oobi, "papu". Most people think he is calling daddy, papa = grandpa.

Today my husband had some knee surgery and after I picked up the little guy from school, we went to see papa. Daddy did well with the surgery and we were all hanging out just waiting for him to become un numb.

The nurse came in and and the little guy called daddy papa, asking papa to hand him something. The nurse thought he was asking her and said, "oh, grandpa can get that for you."

I immediately corrected her and told her that we were older parents. It was very briefly an awkward moment but over all not too bad.

I know it will happen again in the future but I don't care. We are blessed to have this little guy in our lives!!

For my Dad, Aunt And Grandma...

I thought of you with Love today:

I thought of you with love today but that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday and days before that too.

I think of you in silence I often speak your name
All I have are memories and your picture in a frame.

Your memory is my keepsake with which I'll never part
God has you in His keeping I have you in my heart.

I miss each one of these people that touched my life.

My dad, because he was my dad and gave me a good life growing up.

My sweet Grandma because she was always there for me.

My dear aunt because she understood!

I miss each of these people daily and think of them often. It brings back good memories.

Christmas songs..

Long ago I never really paid much attention to the words of Christmas songs.
I always had favorite ones. Lately I have really been enjoying the songs and have paid more attention to them.
This is one of my favorites.

Hark the Herald Angels Sing
“Hark the herald angels sing” Christmas Carol was written by Charles Wesley, brother of John Wesley founder of the Methodist church, in 1739. A sombre man, he requested slow and solemn music for his lyrics and thus “Hark the herald angels sing” was sung to a different tune initially. Over a hundred years later Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) composed a cantata in 1840 to commemorate Johann Gutenberg's invention of the printing press. English musician William H. Cummings adapted Mendelssohn’s music to fit the lyrics of “Hark the herald angels sing” already written by Wesley.

Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled
Joyful, all ye nations, rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

Christ, by highest heaven adored
Christ, the everlasting Lord
Late in time behold him come
Offspring of the Virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the God head see
Hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel

Mild he lays his glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Risen with healing in his wings
Light and life to all he brings
Hail, the Sun of Righteousness
Hail, the Heaven born Prince of Peace
Hail the Heaven born Prince of Peace
Hail the Son of Righteousness
Light and life to all He brings
Risen with healing in His wings
Mild He lay His glory by
Born that man no more may die

Come Desire of nations come
Fix in us thy humble home
Rise, the woman's conquering seed
Bruise in us the serpent's head
Adam's likeness now efface
Stamp thine image in its place
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Isaiah 40:11
He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
Sunday Song
Aaron Shust
Stillness (Speak To Me)
I come to You, oh God, in the stillness of my heart
I need Your healing and Your voice in the stillness of my heart
Speak to me and show me who You are
Rescue me with Your unfailing love and mercy
Speak to me and show me who You are
Hold me tightly in Your arms and never let me go
I hear you calling out my name in the stillness of my heart
Your grace is given me again, now I open my heart
I remember singing praises to Your name every day with all my might
How I long to sing to You again
Thankful Thursday
Another Thursday is here. It's been an uneventful week. I am thankful for that!
* my husband getting off work early this week
* for Wii bowling. We are having a lot of fun with bowling, golf and baseball so far
* for my little guy doing so well in school
* my mom's continued good health and healing with her knee rehab
* bright, sunny, cold crisp snowy days. But I know by January I will be weary of the
cold and snow
* for the Christmas season. We are very minimal in our gift giving and I am thankful
for that
December 4
Two years ago at this time I would have given birth to my third child. Instead I had a miscarriage and with it the end to the dream of not having TWO only children.
I am convinced my boy would have been a wonderful big brother. If the way he behaves with other children is any indication. He absolutely adores babies and smaller children.
My daughter is a terrific big sister to the boy. They absolutely adore each other and it is fun to see them together.
So, we go on with life and remember the babies that aren't here with us.
I also lost a baby on the 5th of December many years ago. That was my first loss.
It saddens me to know I could have had more children. I know my lost babies are safe with Jesus too. I know I will see them all again one day.
I know God has a plan, sometimes I just wish I knew WHY!!!
I am thankful for my living children.
December 1st
Wow, I can't believe it it the first of December already.
We had our first significant snow fall yesterday and the boy went sliding down our backyard hill. He loves the snow. He even helped daddy with the driveway!!
We are all done with Christmas shopping, though I have the baking to do. It's still too early to bake though.
My mom is doing well with her rehab. It's not as easy to see her so much this time since the little guy is in school now. But I go when I can. I'll be seeing Mom this weekend and I talk to her every day.
Saturday is the Army - Navy game. We go to the Air Force base and watch it with Naval Academy Alumni. Last year there were a few from my Husbands class that he actually knew! And there are older alumni, which is always fun--they like to talk.
Daughters cat was very ill--she will have an expensive vet bill this time around. He can go home today though.
Had a visitor in my yard this morning. As I was getting ready to bring the boy to school, I went out to start the car and there was a dog in the driveway. A Border Collie!! We had Border Collies and this one looked similar to ours.
Friendly, but skittish. And he knew how to sit. I just couldn't get close enough to see his tags. So I put my card in the mailbox--he wanted to follow me but we live on a busy road and I told him no. He followed me anyway and just at the moment his owner showed up. She drove by and I pointed to the dog--who is Skippy and she pulled into our driveway. Skippy ran from his home about half a mile away and knew he was naughty. He was even skittish with his mama. But she got him into the car. Skippy is 9 months old. I told her if she ever lost him again to come looking and I know where they all live now.
A happy ending to what could have been a tragedy with the busy road. We have lost 2 dogs to the road before we got a fence.
Busy making a couple of baby blankets for a friend that asked if I could make them for her to give to her friends having babies--I'll post pictures when I am done.
Still working on a few hats for the nieces and nephews as well. Need to get them done before the 24th.
I think that is all for today. I am glad the Skippy thing worked out the way it did!!
Have a great day today!!
Sunday song
My Savior My God by Aaron Shust
I am not skilled to understand
What God has willed, what God has planned
I only know at His right hand
Stands one who is my Savior
I take Him at His word and deed
Christ died to save me; this I read
And in my heart I find a need
Of Him to be my savior
That He would leave His place on high
And come for sinful man to die
You count it strange, so once did I
Before I knew my Savior
My Savior loves, My Savior lives
My Savior's always there for me
My God: He was, my God; He is
My God is always gonna be
Yes, living, dying, let me bring
My strength, my solace from this spring;
That He who lives to be my King
Once died to be my Savior
That He would leave His place on high
And come for sinful man to die
You count it strange, so once did I
Before I knew my Savior
My Savior loves, My Savior lives
My Savior loves, My Savior lives
we have the Wii Fit, Sports, Rock band, Play and he bought a Spongebob game for the boy!
We also have a second controller.
Thanksgiving
Today is Thanksgiving and Thankful Thursday.
I hope you all are gathered with your families and friends this day enjoying food, fun and fellowship.
I am thankful for many things this year.
My family, and our health.
Faith.
Having enough.
Having more than enough.
Being able to give to others joyfully.
For having shoes.
Shoes
For being able to cook a meal today.
For God forgiving me for being so dismissive of huge blessings in my life.
A dental appt gone wrong and other things
Last Wednesday I had some dental work done. No big deal. The last three of my silver fillings were replaced.
My mouth was still numb so I couldn't really tell if my bite was off. But after the stuff wore off, I could tell my bite was off.
So, I called to see a dentist and I got in on Friday. It wasn't my own dentist. I should have listened to my inner voice and just waited for my own dentist to be available.
I sat in the chair for Forty-five minutes. Yes, you read that correctly, FORTY-FIVE minutes while this dentist that wasn't my own tried to fix my bite. It's not that hard to do it, really. She finally gave up and said I would have to come back and see my own dentist because maybe he knew something about my bite!!
I was practically crying when she said that. HELLO--aren't YOU a dentist that should be able to figure this out??? I was beyond frustrated and she actually made my bite WORSE with all her work.
SO today I went to my OWN dentist in the practice and he actually spent about 10 minutes fixing my bite. Now maybe my jaw won't hurt so much.
My mom is home now. She went home Saturday. I did a bunch of grocery shopping for her and cleaned her house. She went to the doctor today and she can drive now!! I am almost shocked at how well THIS knee rehab has gone too!! And she is relatively pain free! GO MOM!!
My boy was sick from Friday afternoon til Monday. Same bug his daddy had that I have managed to dodge--thankfully.
Other than going to see my mom Saturday I haven't been out of the house til today. My boy even missed school yesterday and we didn't go to Bible study this morning.
I am having Thanksgiving here just for my small family and my Mother in Law. It will be like fixing a regular meal for me with a few extras. MIL is bring pie.
That's all for today. Hope all is well with you and your families and I hope you enjoy Thanksgiving this year!!
Hats
These are three hats I made recently. They fit adult heads.
Two red ones and a blue one.
I like the darker red one.
Thinking of giving them to my nephews and nieces, maybe making them in different colors too.
Just stuff................
My husband and I went out yesterday afternoon and got all of our Christmas shopping done! Most of the shopping is gift cards, but we also bought some actual gifts.
Today my husband is very sick. :(
My mom is going home from rehab on Saturday!!! Nine days and she is going home!! YAY!
I went to the dentist this morning and had the last three of my silver fillings replaced! Yay! I am still numb and I am hungry.
I am crocheting some adult hats and will post those soon.
I won two gift cards in the dRaffle I posted about. One for Barnes and Noble and one for Toys R Us. We bought our son an accordion and a boy doll. He loves musical instruments and asked for an accordion and my husband found one at TRU!!! The doll thing....About two years ago I found our daughters very old doll. I put it in his toy box, he didn't do much with it but throw her around and undress her--she is named Charmaine. So we found him a boy doll. I hope he likes it.
Did you know that dentists don't use Novacaine anymore?? I was shocked. They haven't used novacaine since the 1960's. They just call it novacaine because that is what people recognize!!
That's all I have today. Have a good day!!
Church Missions--Interesting
Our church missions group was talked about today at church. They have been in Africa for about two weeks. They are on their way home.
The leader of the group called his wife and told her a story.
They had the opportunity to visit with many people in Kenya while they were there.
One of those was an older woman in a small house.
Turns out this woman is Barack Obama's Grandmother!!
The head of one of the churches that partners with us is in the same tribe as the grandma!!
I thought that was very interesting.
More hats
These are three hats that I made recently for my Nephews.
These are just the sample hats so they could choose the style and color, and so I could get the right size.
The green one is a beanie type hat. The one next to it on the top right has a fold up brim and the bottom one is another beanie style hat.
These big hats are kind of fun to make too!!
Update on mom
My little guy and I went to visit my mom today.
I think this knee has been harder for her. She said she doesn't seem like herself. That she feels a little off.
And she wasn't happy with the room they gave her so she switched rooms.
I hope the rest of her rehab goes better.
She did very well. She will go to rehab and be there about 2 weeks or so.
I'm very glad she is doing so well.
Yarn......
I bought more yarn this morning.
I only meant to look for a skein of yellow since I seemed to have misplaced the other yellow skein I bought. Frustrating.
So while I was there they had this yarn on sale so I picked it up.
I will be using it for baby hats!
It's all baby yarn by Red Heart and Bernat. The two skeins in the back are bigger than the front two skeins.
It will make some nice hats.
These are some more baby hats I made with the baby yarn.
Did you know???
by Andy Rooney
DID YOU KNOW?
As you walk up the steps to the building which houses the U.S Supreme Court you can see near the top of the building a row of the world's law givers and each one is facing one in the middle who is facing forward with a full frontal view .. it is Moses and he is holding the Ten Commandments!
DID YOU KNOW?
As you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two huge oak doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on each lower portion of each door.
DID YOU KNOW?
As you sit inside the courtroom, you can see the wall,
right above where the Supreme Court judges sit,
a display of the Ten Commandments!
DID YOU KNOW?
There are Bible verses etched in stone all over the Federal Buildings and Monuments in Washington , D.C.
DID YOU KNOW?
James Madison, the fourth president, known as 'The Father of Our Constitution' made the following statement:
'We have staked the whole of all our political institutions upon the capacity of mankind for self-government, upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.'
DID YOU KNOW?
Patrick Henry, that patriot and Founding Father of our country said:
'It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great nation was founded not by religionists but by Christians, not on religions but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ'.
DID YOU KNOW?
Every session of Congress begins with a prayer by a paid preacher, whose salary has been paid by the taxpayer since 1777.
DID YOU KNOW?
Fifty-two of the 55 founders of the Constitution were members of the established orthodox churches in the colonies.
DID YOU KNOW?
Thomas Jefferson worried that the Courts would overstep their authority and instead of interpreting the law would begin making law an oligarchy, the rule of few over many.
DID YOU KNOW?
The very first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay, said:
'Americans should select and prefer Christians as their rulers.'
How, then, have we gotten to the point that everything we have done for 220 years in this country is now suddenly wrong and unconstitutional?
Lets put it around the world and let the world see and remember what this great country was built on.
It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore, it is very hard to understand why there is such a mess about having the Ten Commandments on display or 'In God We Trust' on our money and having God in the Pledge of Allegiance. The other 14% who are unbelievers are very loud about their beliefs. Now is the time for the believers to become louder than ever.
Debt update.....
It's been an exciting seven months for us here.
We decided to get on board with Dave Ramsey's debt reduction program in April and we went cold turkey.
We actually quit spending money and went on a budget. We were huge free spenders.
Since April we have paid off a significant amount of our debt. And now we actually have a great budget and have added entertainment and eating out to the budget!!
From April to September we actually didn't go out to eat like we used to. Now we have a budget for it!!
Last night my husband paid off the last of our Home equity loan.
The only debt we have left is a credit card, a second mortgage and our house.
We will be debt free within a few years!! We are very excited about that prospect!!
We have about six weeks left of our FPU class.
November 1
A new month. I can hardly believe it.
This is probably my favorite month of the year. In between summer and winter. Cool crisp sunny days.
And my husband is DONE working nights for a while, other than his regular 3 or 4 nights that he normally works. THAT I can deal with. It's been a long 3 weeks here.
I am making turkey dinner this year since my mom will be in rehab and my husband will just be coming off his regular night shift.
It will be a small dinner but I love turkey leftovers.
I found new jeans for the little guy. I hope they fit through the winter!!
Tonight we turn our clocks back for standard time. I am definitely not looking forward to this since the little guy gets up between 5:30-6 am. I am hoping he sleeps a little later tomorrow morning.
Ramblings from the end of October
*In the 14 years I have lived here we have never once had anyone ring our doorbell on this night. It's been 16 years for my husband. I don't mind.
*Fifteen years ago on this night my daughter was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. She is doing ok!!
*My little guy kind of knows what's going on this night but not really. I am ok with that.
*He has also had a huge growth spurt!! I had to buy new jeans for him because his other ones don't fit anymore. I was shocked.
*In 10 days my mom is having surgery on her other knee.
*I'm beginning to learn to burn bridges. I need to, it's time.
*My husband has been working nights for 3 weeks now and I am ready for him to be done with it. So is the little guy.
*We have beautiful weather right now and through the weekend. Indian summer and it is wonderful.
*I am shocked to think that this time next year my little guy will be in school full time. I have plans!!! LOL
*I like talking to old friends--ones I have known for many years. It's good to have a history like that with people.
*I don't cook much when my husband is on nights. I've been a slacker. I'm ok with that!!
*Still working on that gossip thing and boy is it hard, but I am better about not gossiping I think.
*If I tell you I will pray for you, I will. Usually right then and there. My husband and I were talking about this the other day. I sort of got after him for saying that he would pray and then not praying. We got that cleared up.
*I have really been liking my crochet board lately!! I am so glad I found it too. It has expanded my crocheting horizons a great deal.
*I'm sort of torn between two churches right now. I like the one we all go to a lot but they only have children's church twice a month and I don't want to just go to church twice a month. The little guy doesn't sit well through a whole service yet.
The other church we have been going to every week since my husband has been on nights. They have childrens church every week and it's nice.
What a dilemma..........
I don't think I have anything else right now.
October blanket
I made this blanket for a dRaffle we are having for the friend with cancer.
It's a baby blanket and it is 28 inches wide by 39 inches long.
It's made with Homespun called "Sky Blue". I think it's a pretty color.
Autumn
This has to be my favorite time of year. For many reasons.
One of them is the leaves!! The colors of them. The vivid reds, oranges, yellows, browns and greens. It's just beautiful to see.
Autumn always has a smell to it. Maybe part of that is rotting leaves, but I know part of it is the burning leaves too. That is among my favorite smells.
The cool crisp mornings. The cool sunny days. Even if it is cold, if the sun is shining it is beautiful.
Then there is harvest time. We live near a potato field and corn fields and soy fields.
The potato field is right across the street from us and we always hear the workers in the spring and fall.
The corn fields are being harvested now too and it is strange to see empty fields now as I drive home.
This is my most favorite time of year!!
October blanket
This blanket is for the woman mentioned in my "Ponderings" post a few days ago.
It's made with Homespun "gothic" which it is that beautiful deep purple color that is one of my favorites.
It is 42 inches wide by 54 inches long.
I hope she finds it warm and snuggly and comfortable!!
Fourteen years ago...........
Fourteen years ago this month I was a newlywed by about a month. I was so excited and happy to be married.
We wanted to start a family right away and were hoping for a honeymoon baby.
I got pregnant just a month after we got married. We were very excited at the thought of a baby.
Sadly, it was not meant to be. This was my third pregnancy and I lost the baby at about 15 weeks. I was just heartbroken about it.
I got pregnant again about seven months later. Almost a year after we were married!! Our first anniversary was approaching and I was pregnant!!!
Again we were very happy about it. Sadly, it was not meant to be. This time it was an ectopic pregnancy and I had surgery at about 5 weeks gestation.
I was very ill on my first anniversary.
We waited almost 10 years to be pregnant again. Certainly not for lack of trying.
We tried medically to get pregnant and it just never happened so we gave up.
Much to out surprise and delight, I got pregnant with my little boy!!!
We were a bit nervous but the pregnancy went fairly well and I delivered my little guy at 39 weeks.
When the little guy was two years old, we were shocked to find out I was pregnant again. This would be my sixth and final pregnancy.
Sadly, it was not meant to be. I went for an ultrasound at 8 weeks and there was no heartbeat in my womb. My baby was not alive.
We were absolutely devastated by this. What a miracle to have another chance for a baby. I had a feeling of dread the days before the ultrasound and now I know why.
I think this was the hardest loss of all.
So in the end, I have two beautiful children I am blessed with. I have a beautiful daughter and and a beautiful son. I am blessed with them and my husband.
I know my four lost babies are safe in the arms of Jesus.
Not To Us
by Chris Tomlin
The cross before me the world behind
No turning back, raise the banner high
It's not for me, it's all for You
Let the heavens shake and split the sky
Let the people clap their hands and cry
It's not for us, it's all for You
Not to us, but to Your Name be the glory
Not to us, but to Your Name be the glory
Our hearts unfold before Your throne
The only place for those who know
It's not for us, It's all for You
Send Your holy fire on this offering
Let our worship burn for the world to see
It's not for us, It's all for You
The earth is shaking, the mountains shouting
It's all for You
The waves are crashing, the sun is raging
It's all for You
The universe spinning and singing
It's all for You
The children dancing, dancing, dancing
It's all for You, It's all for You
My all for You
Not to us, but to Your Name be the glory
My all for You
Not to us, but to Your Name be the glory
My all for You
Not to us, but to Your Name be the glory
Tiny baby hats
These are three tiny baby hats that I have made with the baby yarn.
The smallest one is 4 inches across, then 4.5 inches then 5.5 inches.
I am also making some a little bigger, they are half done right now.
A toolbox.........
A few years ago when our son was little, my husband bought this toolbox as a kit for the boy.
A couple days ago they finally got around to putting it together.
The little guy did most of the work with daddy supervising.
My son was so proud of his toolbox when he came into the house. He went right over to his tools and filled it up!!!
Friends
A year ago, we were out in Annapolis Maryland at my husbands 20th reunion at the Naval Academy.
The whole family went out and we had a good time.
While we were out there I was able to meet up with three women I had gotten to know through a message board. Yes, a message board.
A couple of these women I have known since before they had their babies. And I have seen one of them have a second baby.
To me, these women are true friends. Through thick and thin. It was a great pleasure to meet them all and their children.
And it's been a joy to see their children growing and changing and learning new things.
I am honored to call these three women friends.
So here's to Stacie, Viv, Angela and their children!!!
Ponderings..
I've been in a bit of a funk the last few days. Plus I was sick Sunday.
Thankfully I am better and it didn't last long.
I've come to realize how fragile our lives on this earth are.
We aren't guaranteed to have a long and happy life and I believe there are few who do.
I belong to a message board that I have been a member of for quite some time but didn't post at much until this year. I know a lot of the women on the board from another board.
Recently one of the women has been diagnosed with a form of cancer. It is treatable.
It has just really hit home to me how fragile life really is.
This news has literally hit me like a ton of bricks.
This woman has many many people praying for her and supporting her.
If you remember, say a prayer for her.
Yeah, I know, I said stuff about message boards before, and I know there is no message board out there that is perfect. But, I've lived and learned about message boards. This message board is good.
Sweetest day!!
Today is Sweetest day.
It brings back lots of memories.
I had not actually ever really heard of it until about 20 years or so ago.
My mom's cousin used to buy my Grandma, his aunt, a box of candy every Sweetest day.
We would almost always be visiting Grandma because we were off school. After I had my daughter, we would all go visit Grandma and she always had a box of Chocolates there.
Sometimes we even got our own treats from mom's cousin!!
It just brings back good and fun memories.
We don't celebrate it here and never have.
Yarn......
I haven't bought yarn in a few months. But I bought some today.
What I needed was baby yarn to make the baby hats with. The yarn I was using was worsted weight and it's sort of too thick. It still works for the hats but I wanted to use actual baby yarn for them.
The little guy was with me and he helped me pick out the yarn!!
I think together we did a pretty good job. Blue for boys, pink for girls and some neutral colors. The color next to the green skein is actually white with multi colors in it. A neutral color.
Thankful Thursday
Another Thursday. Beautiful fall day here again.
I did my housecleaning yesterday so I could run some errands I don't normally run on Thursdays.
Today I am thankful for:
* my Husband--for working so hard for us and for bringing me dinner last night and for taking our son to Menards!!
* my little guy--he is such a joy!
* fresh food
* My daughter.
* fall days--my favorite time of year
* memories
* friendships--past, present and future. I am thankful for the people I have called friends throughout my life. I have learned valuable lessons from each and every one of them.
* for my faith in God and for His grace and mercy!
Pregnancy and Infant loss remembrance day..........
On September 28, 2006, House Resolution # 222 was passed in the House of Representatives supporting the goals and ideals of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.
Please set aside a moment today to remember a baby you have lost.
I know a lot of women that have had pregnancy losses and sadly, infant losses.
Remember your friends who have lost too.
Baby hats..........
These are the baby hats I have been making. Each of them is a different pattern except for the pink and blue one. They are the same pattern, just different sizes.
I have enjoyed working on these and will continue to make more. They only take about an hour to make!
I am just using worsted weight yarn like Red Heart since I don't have any baby yarn right now.
I will be sending them to this organization for babies.
A shawl
This is another prayer Shawl I just finished.
It's for a friend of mine with three little girls. she lost her husband three years ago. We were talking about prayer shawls and I volunteered to make one for her.
She asked for green and I had this color, which is a favorite of mine.
It's Homespun and it's called "Country"
This shawl is huge. It is 101 inches long and 50 inches from neck to knees.
She can wrap her girls up too!!
Another visitor
This morning right before we were leaving for church, my little guy told me about the pheasant in the back yard.
So we looked at it for a minute then I grabbed the camera and got a picture.
It's a female and she walked around back there for a little bit. She was gone when we got home from church.
I love living out here, though I didn't when we were first married. I like the animals that visit us.
Titus 1:16
They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.
A song for today
Old Days by Chicago
Old days
Good times I remember
Fun days
Filled with simple pleasures
Drive-in movies
Comic books and blue jeans
Howdy doody
Baseball cards and birthdays
Take me back
To a world gone away
Memories
Seem like yesterday
Old days
Good times I remember
Gold days
Days Ill always treasure
Funny faces
Full of love and laughter
Funny places
Summer nights and streetcars
Take me back
To a world gone away
Boyhood memories
Seem like yesterday
Old days - in my mind and in my heart to stay
Old days - darkened dreams of good times gone away
Old days - days of love and feeling fancy free
Old days - days of magic still so close to me
Old days - in my mind and in my heart to stay
Old days - darkened dreams of good times gone away
Old days - days of love and feeling fancy free
Old days - days of magic still so close to me
